Summary: The Warrenton 1:24,000 Quadrangle lies in the northeastern North Carolina Piedmont entirely within rural Warren County. It is located 75 km northeast of Raleigh in the Henderson 1:100,000 sheet. The towns of Norlina and Warrenton, the county seat, are the largest urban areas. Fishing Creek is the largest stream in the southern portion of the quadrangle . Its drainage basin includes Possum Quarter, Horse , Phoebus, Matthews, Rocky, and Owens Creeks, and the upper reaches of Reedy Creek. All are generally west-to east-flowing tributaries to the Tar River. In the northern portion of the quadrangle , Hawtree, Sawmill, Malones, and Terrapin Creeks as well as Cabin Branch flow generally northward from Warren Plains, Norlina, and Ridge way towards the Roanoke River and Lake Gaston. Natural exposures of crystalline rocks occur along the se drainages, their numerous small unnamed tributaries, and small roadcuts leading into incised drainages.
